The freedom of thought and speech has been protected by the First Amendment for every American since our nation’s independence. However, today, the emergence of social media has elevated dialogue and discourse to platforms unimaginable by those who wrote our Bill of Rights.
Despite this, our First Amendment rights remain and speech on social media platforms is equally protected.
Nevertheless, there are large and powerful actors who would argue that a select few firms and politicians should maintain unilateral control over the mechanisms of speech in our modern society.
Americans should be able to speak freely on social media platforms just as they can on the telephone or at their local grocery store. More speech, not less speech, is always better in a free society.
